Gary Taylor – Managing Director of Operations

A native of London, England, Gary came to America to experience the richness of a country where anything is possible, and he took the opportunity and ran with it – literally. A heralded miler, Gary ran for the University of Arkansas under legendary coach John McDonnell winning 7 national championships. It was in Arkansas where he met another legend, Sam Walton and began his career in data and technology with the world’s largest retailer, Walmart. Beginning as a programmer in the finance team responsible for P&Ls, Gary went on to create one of the first ever internal health claims processing systems and eventually became a Director overseeing all sales reporting and data used for the famous Walmart ‘Saturday Morning Meetings.’

Jumping into the newly emerging world of data and technology in the late 80s, Gary has long loved the excitement, challenge and growth of this untapped horizon. His experience includes leadership roles at national biotech and IT staffing firms before joining the growing industry of telecommunications in 2000. Gary worked for both Alltel and Verizon in various senior roles of increasing responsibility in web technology, data products and ultimately as Vice President of IT Business Solutions.

At Sowell, Gary will focus on continuing to develop and fully integrate a ‘best in breed’ data and wealth tech stack, along with a related suite of products. Always looking to create connectivity between systems and data, Gary keeps an advisor’s success top of mind.

Carrying an entrepreneurial spirit, Gary and his wife, Erin, owned Go! Running, a popular community running store in Little Rock for a decade. He is a runner, cyclist and avid fly fisherman. Gary lives in Little Rock with his wife Erin and three big dogs. He and Erin have 4 grown children living and working in various parts of the country but spend most of their time with their three grandchildren in Little Rock.
