The process
Starting with the "Analysis"; we look at current positions and allocations to determine what changes should be made to bring any existing assets in line with your overall goals and risk tolerance.
Once an appropriate allocation has been determined, we position and continually monitor the account and make adjustments based on current market conditions and the goals established for the account.
We use proven investment techniques that have stood the test of time. We don't take unnecessary risks with your money. We will always err on the side of caution.
Management that makes sense
Not all management styles work in various market cycles all the time, that’s why we employ a “multi-strategy” management style. When volatile markets dictate, we are more tactical in nature to take advantage of weaknesses in the market. When the markets are more stable and healthy, we employ more of a strategic management style. Simply stated; we match our management style based on current market conditions.
In essence, we are looking for the “sweet spot”; positioning each portfolio to try to provide the type of returns consistent with your risk tolerance while trying to reduce volatility to the largest degree possible without giving up performance.
Risk assessment is essential; we require every client to take our “Risk Assessment Questionnaire” to help us and your advisor determine the proper suitability for your investments.
Safety Net
Sowell Management provides our “Long-term Tactical Overlay” to all Asset Managed Portfolios. This proprietary tactical overlay is a combination of mechanical systems which monitor major market indices. Each index is tracked by a combination of three different mechanical systems, each independently providing a clear buy or sell signal. The system is utilized by staying invested in the equity markets when all three systems are recommending buy or selling when all three are indicating sell. It is important to note that all three must be in agreement before either buys or sells are made.
While this is not designed as a “market timing” signal, it is intended to help avoid deep market pull backs and full bear markets. To give some insight, our AMP Portfolios would have been out of the equity markets four times during the time period of 1990 to 2010 and three times from 2000 to 2010.
